About
Hello and welcome! My name is Kay Boerstra, and I'm the heart and hands behind Crafty Pleasures.
My creative journey began across the ocean. I was born in Scotland and moved to Montreal with my family as a child before eventually settling here in the Durham Region. That love for home and family has always been at the centre of my life. Today, I'm a wife, a proud mum to two wonderful boys, and a doting owner to our two dogs, Layla (a toy shih poo) and Finn (a border collie).
For as long as I can remember, I've been making things. Over the years, my passion has taken many forms: scrapbooking, stamping, baking, and eventually, a deep dive into the world of custom creations. What started with vinyl signs and t-shirts has grown into a full-time creative business that now includes commercial signage, wood engraving, and so much more.
What Drives Me
What drives me is the pure joy of creating and, most importantly, seeing the smiles on people's faces when they receive something made just for them. There is nothing better!
When I'm not in the studio, I love to travel — especially back to Europe and the UK, where my heart always feels a little at home.
Sharing the Craft
I also believe that creativity is something to be shared. That's why I create instructional videos on Instagram and TikTok and occasionally teach special project workshops to small groups. I love learning, and I love helping others learn, too.
